Todd: Nydja, we were talking about education andpraising students. Do you think that students todayare praised too much?
托德：妮迪亚，我们来谈教育和称赞学生。你认为现在的学生是不是被过多称赞了？
Nydja: I do. I don’t think that they need as muchpraise for poor work. If they’re doing good work,then of course they deserve it, but this false sense of success that kids are given is reallymessing with their heads later on in life.
妮迪亚：是的。我认为他们做的不好就不应该得到称赞。如果他们表现的很好，那他们当然值得得到赞扬，但是孩子们得到的这种虚假的成就感以后会对他们的思想产生不好的影响。
Todd: How so? Like how do you think it affects them later in life if they have this false sense ofsuccess as you say?

Nydja: Well, when it comes time to really perform and to step up to the plate say in collegeor in their career in the future, they might not know how to do any of these skills. They’ve beenpropped up by, you know, compliments that are just full of air, so they might not really knowhow to go about doing something. They have a sense of entitlement that they should receivethat promotion or that good grade in college, even though they did nothing to actuallyachieve it.
妮迪亚：比如他们在大学或者未来职业中需要表现或行动时，他们可能不知道如何应用他们的能力。他们一直靠称赞支撑，他们可能不知道如何处理事情。他们有一种特权意识，认为自己应该得到晋升或者应该在大学里获得好成绩，虽然他们并没有为得到这些付出过。

Todd: Right, so do you actually … When you were younger did you have teachers who werevery strict? So if you failed, they let you know you failed?
托德：好，你小时候，老师们对你严厉吗？如果你失败了，他们会让你知道你失败了吗？
Nydja: Yes. Yes. They let you know immediately. I had some teachers who weren’t very nice atall, and maybe he polar opposite. Didn’t cut you any break either. Let you know that youweren’t heading anywhere fast unless you turned it around quick, so they were not aboutbabying me or my classmates at all. It was very hard to get good grades because they gradedhard. Very different from my experience with the people who were in school today.
