The idea of adventure has always captured theimagination. The idea that just over the next hillthere will be excitement and mystery is a big part ofwhat makes us human. This is just as true of ancienttimes as it is today. Famous explores set out in smallboats or journeyed across immense deserts and oceans. Early explorers like ChristopherColumbus or Zheng He traveled to foreign places for the glory of their nations. Moreimportantly, they set out to test themselves against the forces of nature and the pursue ofknowledge. Other explorers today do the same thing. People are going to space in pursuit ofthe last frontier or seeking in the depths of science for new knowledge. Most people, in theirdaily lives, do not have the opportunity to truly test themselves in these ways. Modern livinghas given them the opportunity, however, with adventuring events. The idea of adventuringevents is not new, yet it is only now gaining in popularity. People today can go mountainclimbing or deep sea diving. If they have enough money, they can even go into space with theopening of the new industry of space tourism. These different kinds of adventuring events areopen to groups as well as to individuals. For example, many companies are using survivalschools as a means to reinforce the concepts of leadership and team work. All of thesemethods are an attempt to inject adventure in lives that have become increasing dull due tothe technologies of a modern world.
